St. Clement and St. Philip Neri Pastorate

Faith Formation - Putting Faith into Action

Volunteer Opportunities to put our faith into action September is right around the corner, which means that ministries in our pastorate that have taken a break during the summer, will soon be back. On Sunday September 13th, we have two very important ministries returning: Faith Formation for grades Kindergarten through fourth grade, which takes place in St. Philip’s school building following the 9:30 Mass (10:45-Noon) and our Family Nights, which are spread around the campus of St. Philip Neri beginning with a 5pm Youth Mass, followed by pizza and various ministries for all ages until 7:45 pm.

To make these ministries thrive, we need volunteers. In particular, we need volunteers for the following:

1. To assist in teaching or serving as a classroom aid for grades K – 4 for Sunday morning Faith Formation. Faith Formation meets most Sunday mornings during the school year. If you are interested in helping with this, please contact Laura Graham, our pastorate Coordinator of Faith Formation at [email protected] or by calling St. Philip’s Office at 410-859-0571.

2. For Family Nights, which are 2nd and 4th Sunday evenings of the month from September through April, we need more volunteers in the following areas:
- Volunteers to assist with our younger children’s group which spans from toddlers/preschoolers to 4th grade. A short lesson with a Biblical theme will be given along with some fun activities that relate to the lesson. If you’re interested in serving in this ministry, please email me (Fr. Rich) at [email protected] or by leaving a message at St. Philip’s Office at 410-859-0571.
- Volunteers to assist with “Edge,” which is our youth ministry for middle-schoolers (Grades 5-8). In particular, we need adults to ask already prepared questions and facilitate/mentor small group discussions, which is a portion of most every Edge Night experience. We also need volunteers to assist with fun ice-breaker activities, and possibly assist at times with the presentation of a short lesson (detailed materials will always be provided). For more information and if you’re interested in volunteering with “Edge,” please contact our Associate Pastor, Father Matteo dal Bianco at [email protected] or at 410-859- 0571 ext. 16107.

- We could use volunteers to assist with 9th grade Confirmation during Family Nights, especially to help when participants split up for small group discussions. Please contact our Youth Minister, Matteo Santi-Amantini at [email protected] or Bobbie Whitney at [email protected]

- If someone is interested in facilitating our Young Adult Ministry for ages 18-35, please contact Fr. Rich at [email protected] or at 410-859-0571. For the first 7 meetings, we plan on doing The Search.

WE HAVE SOME VOLUNTEER NEEDS AT OTHER TIMES TOO.

3. On the first and third Sunday evenings of each month, starting September 20 and going through April from 6:30 – 7:45 pm, we will have catechesis for Middle-Schoolers (grades 5- 8). We need volunteers to assist with:

- Fifth and Sixth graders will be receiving catechesis in different topics. “Edge” offers mini courses on various topics, and we will be using several of them throughout the year. This follows much the same format as “Edge” on family nights, but in smaller numbers for just 5th and 6th grades. A fun activity related to the lesson, a 10–15-minute teaching, small group discussion, and time for prayer. If you are interested in assisting, please contact Fr. Rich before August 28 at [email protected]. After August 28, please contact our seminarian on his pastoral year here, Danny Eraso at [email protected]

- Seventh and Eighth graders will be receiving a version of Pope John Paul II’s “Theology of the Body” that is geared for middle-schoolers. This has lessons, combined with fun activities related to the lessons, and some small group discussion. We could use at least 3 more adults to assist in this important ministry, especially for facilitating small group discussions. If you are interested in serving in this ministry, please contact Deacon Mark Rachid at [email protected] or at 410-859-0571. (Any eighth grader who participated in this last year is welcome to attend Confirmation Preparation with the 9th graders during Family Nights (2nd and 4th Sunday evenings). They do not need to repeat Theology of the Body.)

4. On Sunday mornings at the 9:30 Mass, beginning at some point in early Fall, we will be reinstating Children’s Liturgy of the Word (C.L.O.W.) on most Sundays. CLOW is where children can go during the readings and the homily to another room and receive a lesson based on that day’s readings, which is appropriate for their age, and then they return to Mass before the Liturgy of the Eucharist. We desperately need volunteers to make this ministry work. If you are interested in helping, please contact Harley Kozushko at [email protected]
As you can see, we have multiple opportunities to help spread the faith to our young, who are truly the future of our Church! For most of these volunteer needs you don’t have to be a trained teacher, just have love for our Catholic Faith and love for God’s people. We and the Holy Spirit will help you with the rest!

Thanks for praying about this, discerning, and answering God’s call.
