CONFIRMATION PREPARATION

From the Catechism of the Catholic Church, Paragraph 1303, reads as follows:

The effects of Confirmation:
  •  It roots us more deeply in the divine filiation which makes us cry, “Abba! Father!”
  •  It unites us more firmly to Christ in communion with others.
  •  It intensifies the gifts of the Holy Spirit within us.
  •  It renders our bond with the Church more perfect.
  •  It gives us a special strength of the Holy Spirit to spread and defend the Faith by word and action as true witnesses of Christ, to confess the name of Christ boldly, and never to be ashamed of the Cross.

Young people preparing for the Sacrament of Confirmation will grow as disciples and followers of Jesus Christ as they prepare to receive the Holy Spirit.  They will spend time as a community, under the guidance of young adult leaders and peer ministers, growing deeper in their understanding of the Catholic Faith and their relationship with Jesus. They will spend time in prayer and serving in parish ministries and the larger community.  They will attend an overnight retreat, choose a Confirmation Saint and will write a short biography on their life, as well as write a letter to the Bishop who will confirm them.

Newly confirmed young people will be empowered to live as witnesses of their Catholic Faith in their families, schools, and our parish community.

Classes are Sundays, 6:00-8:00 p.m. at St. Philip Neri beginning January 22.  Confirmation Liturgy will take place in November 2023.  (We take a break from classes in the summer, but encourage candidates to work on their service projects over the summer- one service option is our Summer Camp.)

Young people who are eligible to enter immediate preparation for the Sacrament of Confirmation:
  • Are in ninth grade (through twelfth grade)
  • Attended religious education last year (in a Catholic school, parish Religious Education program, or home school)
